Brazil makes progress in resuming poultry and honey exports to the EU
Sanitary audit completed on September 4th represents progress in the process of re-including Brazil on the bloc’s supplier list.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) reports that the audit conducted by the European Union’s health authorities in Brazil, focusing on the poultry and honey production chains, was completed on September 4.
The sanitary controls and official procedures adopted by Brazil were considered satisfactory by European teams for the poultry and honey supply chains, representing progress in the process of re-including the country on the list of suppliers authorized to export these products to the bloc.
The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, André de Paula, highlighted the result. “This morning the audit by the European Union health authorities in our country concluded. And our sanitary controls were considered satisfactory; they were approved for our poultry and our honey. Now we await the bureaucratic process, but very quickly we will see Brazil back on the list of poultry and honey suppliers to the European Union.”
Requested by European authorities, the audit began on August 24 and included visits to production facilities and official bodies. During the mission, Brazilian technical teams presented the procedures and controls adopted in the country, allowing for on-site verification of the structure and functioning of the official Brazilian agricultural defense system.
The result reinforces the strength of the official agricultural defense system and Brazil’s commitment to the safety and quality of animal products destined for the domestic market and the more than 150 countries that import Brazilian agricultural products.
Since the decision adopted by the European Union on May 12, 2026, the Brazilian government has maintained an intense political and technical dialogue with the bloc’s authorities. The country has implemented the necessary measures to meet the applicable requirements and has submitted the documentation and information relevant to the supply chains destined for export, with special attention to poultry, fish, beef, eggs, and honey.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) remains in contact with the European Union and the productive sectors involved, monitoring the next steps in the process for Brazil’s re-inclusion on the list of countries authorized to export poultry meat and honey to the bloc.
